Significance Of The World Environment Day

June 3, 2022 7 min read

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5th every year. The significance of this day is to ensure that we are in tune with the importance of the environment and are taking steps to protect it from deteriorating further. As mentioned by the United Nations, "The celebration of this day provides us with an opportunity to broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by individuals, enterprises, and communities in preserving and enhancing the environment." The UN has also introduced Sustainable Development Goals to ensure we minimize harm to the environment

This year the WED is being hosted in Sweden and the theme is Only One Earth which means there is a stronger focus on ‘Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature’. These past few years we have faced a lot of exploitation of the environment. The ever increasing population and diminishing resources indicate a pressing need to uitilize the resources with greater care and concern.

This year, unlike others, also indicates the end of this pandemic. For 2 years, the world underwent a transition with Covid-19 affecting nations and this year as we are hoping for a recovery and regaining normalcy, it is important for us to make note of the ways in which we can preserve our natural resources with greater care.

To ensure that the environment doesn’t suffer any further we have to be a bit more mindful in our approach. From planting trees, to stopping animal cruelty and preserving water, together we can make a difference. Little steps will go a long way in keeping the environment safe and healthy.

We have listed down a few thing you can do to minimize damage to our beautiful environment

Handy tips for all to follow:
- Save water
Keep taps closed and ensure that there isn’t any excessive water waste in your home and environment

- Plant trees
Trees and plants are very important for the environment. Please ensure that you make a conscious effort to add to the greenery around you.
