World Ocean’s Day Special
Significance & Fun Facts

June 10, 2022 7 min read

World Ocean Day is celebrated on June 8th, 2022. This day is celebrated every year to spread awareness about the oceans. It is observed on the same date every year. Oceans have played a very important role and are said to be the lungs of our planet.

According to the UN, at least 50% of the oxygen is produced by the ocean and 30% of the carbon dioxide is absorbed by the oceans, which is produced by humans, navigating the negative impact of global warming.

The day provides a unique opportunity not only to honor but also in conserving and in protecting our oceans. We celebrate this day to raise global awareness about the importance of the ocean in our lives and the ways through which we can protect it.

About 3/4th of the planet is water and we have been living in a way that we haven’t saved or treasured water enough.

Fun facts about the ocean:

- The four oceans namely the Indian, Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic hold 97% of our planet's water

- Ocean provides a good range of goods and services that are an integral part of our health, economies, and for our weather like fisheries, and shipping routes.

- Ocean controls temperature and weather by absorbing over half the heat reaching the Earth from the sun

- We usually don’t realize it, but marine plants also produce half of the oxygen that we and all other land animals breathe.

Our environment has suffered tremendously, and it is our responsibility to ensure that the oceans are taken care of, and we never have to compromise on our natural resources.
