Every year September 5th gives us an opportunity to thank those who guide us on the right path; our mentors and our teachers. Teachers' Day in India is celebrated on 5th September to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was a scholar, a worthwhile recipient of Bharat Ratna, and second President of independent India.

He was a renowned educationist, and a great teacher. He was born and raised in a small Indian town, the power of education enabled him to become a great writer and a dynamic politician who worked for the greater good of all.

Dr. Radhakrishnan became President of India in 1962. On one of his birthdays his friends and students who requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday with him. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan instead responded, "Instead of observing my birthday discretely, it would be my pompous privilege if 5th September is scrutinised as Teachers' Day." His words showcased his dedication for teachers. From then on, every year the entire nation celebrates Teachers' Day on 5th September. Till date, on this day students shower their beloved teachers with gifts, greetings and most importantly, gratitude.

He believed that teachers have the power to mould young minds and shape their lives. Dr. Radhakrishnan wanted to do his best to empower teachers and equip them with the best of tools to help them impart the highest quality of education. He worked tenaciously to democratize education and ensure teachers are always ahead of the curve to look after their students.
